Here Comes the Sun
As a working class stiff you can be between the sheets or between jobs but no where inbetween. To be between the sheets you must be cozying up to your boss. To be between jobs you must have pissed someone off. Either your boss or yourself. If your boss gets pissed you are fired. If you get mad you quit. The results is the same.
For me, however, there are benefits. For one I get to spend more time at home. Since I work and live overseas being home means spending time in my house in Canada. Manitoba to be specific. Normally I don’t plan to be home during the winter, but when I am home I enjoy it. I love spending my time indoors looking out at the beautiful winter weather and being grateful I don’t have to work outside at -20c or worse.
I work in the tropics and so being in Manitoba without having to go outdoors (along with the benefits of central heating, automatic garage doors, auto start on the truck, and heated parking) means I never have to suffer the cold. Unlike those unfortunate frozen stiffs having to fly for a living in this deep freeze. Sorry for them.
In the meantime, I pass my time stoking the wood stove, sipping hot coffee, editing pictures of my travels, writing stories, and cleaning the basement while waiting for my next contract to start. I never have to wait long.
Here comes the sun.
If I manage to make it home for the summer, however, then the view is different.
